In February HaWe Speed deployed a high-speed door to a siding of a steel mill in Bochum. The deployed door is a TurboRoll 20/AL with the dimensions 3.80 x 4.20 meters. On eye level, a double-walled vision profile was installed. The door is being operated through induction loops and additional push-buttons.

As to the processing of crude steel the door is exposed to dust and draught. It opens at a speed of 2.0m/sec. To guarantee the high speed and a long service life, the drive is additionally supported by tension springs, which are installed behind covers in the side parts. Hereby, in case of a power failure, the door can be opened quickly and easily from the ground.

… summer can come along – and you can keep your doors closed! – air will come through anyways …

High-speed door are an economical purchase to separate warmth from cold, keep a defined room climate, prevent draught and so forth. This is common.

But especially this spring and summer an essential field of application for flexible high-speed doors comes along: protection form insects.

The task is very atypical for automatic rolling doors: The opening is to stay open, air flow is desired – but unfortunately irritating insects get into the building or production area. This is a considerable problem to the production in the food and hygiene industry. Not just here, but in any factory where work is being done at night time while the doors are opened, can the wire mesh door be of good help as the light will only attract the insects.

HaWe Speed’s door for protection from insects offers the solution. The high-speed door, which is usually installed to the facade as a foil high-speed door, is now equipped with a netted curtain for protection from insects. The door opens with a speed of about 2.5m/sec, whereas for security reasons it closes with only 0.8m/sec.

All sorts of emitters an be used as activators or for monitoring: safety radars, radar detectors, induction loops, push and pull switch, radio remote control and so forth.

The interesting design for protection form insects through the curtain can be introduced to all doors in series 07, 08, 15 and 25.

operating example: premium car care in Hamburg

In the shopping centre Hamburg Alstertal a new business concept has been established: the customers enjoy shopping in a high end mall while leaving their cars with the car care experts at Glanzraum. While the customers are concerned with the latest spring fashion, their cars are being hand washed, polished and cleaned. Upon the customers return, their parking tickets are already paid for and the car “looks like new”. This makes the drive home a whole new “shiny” experience.

The requirements for the door were complex. As it had to serve the angled floor in the multi-storey car park and was meant to not look like a rough industrial door.

The solution was the standard internal door type 07/VR from HaWe-Speed with adjusted bottom part and an individually designed door curtain – an appealing solution that represents Glanzraum’s positioning in the premium auto care business. Additionally the moving advertisement space makes the brand name become even more memorable. A not to be undervalued advertisement factor.

Who says high-speed doors can not look of high quality and serve as a design element? – Maybe an idea for your business?

In cooperation with MFZ-Antriebe in Legden, HaWe Speed now offers high-speed doors to experienced and on industrial doors specialized door dealers or manufacturers in a Private-Label-Edition. This way doors in a special equipped version can be ordered separately from drive and control-box within a cooperation. Drive an control-box will be obtained separately at MFZ-Ovitor. Therefore experienced door companies and manufacturers of other doors, e.g.: roll-up doors or sectional doors, have the opportunity to merchandise fully developed and specially equipped high-speed doors under their own name. Furthermore you can benefit from customised documentations and brochures if requested.

Of course smaller businesses will have the possibility to purchase the doors in a completed construction (drive and control-box included).

No matter if you decide to purchase door and electronic parts separately or in a completed solution, the CE (EN 13241-1) persist as long as all standards are met.

Due to the self-supporting building technique these doors work very well in a combinational system of high-speed door and roll-up/sectional door. This way a retailer/manufacturer gains an important selling proposition.

Such a strategy of corporate production of different brands already proved of value in the auto mobile industry. Today we see the result in a multifaceted model- and brand-variation at low prices. Development and production costs are being focused.

Other than in wide parts of Europe, in Germany high-speed doors are a recognized standard in cutting down energy costs, maintaining room temperature or preventing draught and invasion of dirt.

A closeness between door and vehicle (e.g. forklifts) is in these flexible high-speed doors’ nature. Inevitably this will lead to some sort of contact between the two at some point of time and cause a start-up error.

To prevent major damages, a device that releases the bottom section in case of a crash is installed. There are different solutions on the market on how to lead the bottom section back into the guide rail. This is comparably easy if the bottom section doesn’t need to go through the wall as it is usually to wide.

For this not uncommon case HaWe Speed installed a simple solution on our doors: mechanic force can be used to have the guide lugs retracted by spring power and thereby releasing the bottom section on both sides. This way the bottom section is smaller then the opening and can move freely. It is no longer necessary to compromise the start-up by mounting the guide rails into the opening.

By simple shifting, using a handle, the door can be repositioned.

HaWe-Speed now offers series 07 high-speed-doors in specially equipped versions to allow the use of these doors on emergency escape routes.

TÜV SÜD states that according to (CE) EN 13241-1:2004, and other standard guidelines for the use of automatic sliding doors on escape routes, HaWe Speed high speed-doors are certified to be deployed for this particular use (certificate no.: 13587568, Feb 11th 2010).

Hence, for the first time, this results in legal security for the use of high-speed-doors on escape routes. In the past it was always arguable if high-speed-doors could be installed on escape routes in operational buildings and how authorities could determine minimum requirements for equipment and mode of operation.

The now existing certificate gives clear specifications on all components that need to be applied and general requirements. Now nothing hinders the use of these doors anymore.

In fall and winter it is starting to get cold, therefore we need high-speed-doors to maintain indoor temperature and aide in the fast and efficient flow of materials. In summer, on the contrary, doors are commonly left wide open to allow as much air as possible to get in.

Unfortunately not only air, but uninvited guests manage to get into the warehouse or the factory as well. For example: insects and birds – a catastrophe to quality assurance in the food industry.

For doors and windows there already is a simple solution, insect screens. But few people know that this simple solution can also be used with fast acting doors.

Equipping a HaWe Speed high-speed-doors entirely or partly with such retractable door screens gives you an economical alternative to often complex and costly solutions, while still allowing you to leave warehouse doors open in the summer. The HaWe Speed bug protection high-speed-door keeps uninvited guests away.

Gladly we will equip your series 07 and 08/15/25 high-speed doors with these optional screens.

80% of HaWe Speed high speed doors now with MFZ Ovitor motors and control units!

HaWe Speed is glad to advice, that now most of the high-speed-doors are fitted with MFZ drives and control units.
In a process, which has started in early 2010, we have redesigned our assembly of doors, motors and control units. From end of August on, all doors, even small standard type high-speed-doors, will have a 3 phase frequency converter with reinforced gearbox instead of the just single phase supply. We believe, that this important details will make the door more durable and reliable.

All these doors will now be assembled with the new CS300 or CS300FU main board in a special HaWe Speed setting.
The CS300 microprocessor control unit sets new standards in control technology. It is the deluxe control unit for high speed doors “with all the frills”, as it no longer requires cumbersome circuit boards for adding on functions. The display is a pluggable LCD monitor, with a clear text display, and it can be operated in different languages. The LCD monitor is mounted on the housing and used as a separate programming module. Naturally, the CS300 has electronic end-position controls with absolute value encoder evaluation and fullfils the requirements of the product standard for doors EN 13 241.
All standard and reinforced high speed doors from HaWe speed, (07/08/15/25 series) including the special application type doors, are in cooperation with MFZ-Antriebe, Germany, available with private label. We offer experienced door dealers or standard door manufacturers these doors without motors/controls. In this kind of cooperation, agreed partners can have the opportunity to source the drives and controls straight from MFZ-Antriebe Germany. The EN 13241-1 approval will not be effected with this. In case this can be an interesting cooperation strategy for your company, please contact our Sales Manager, Mr. Dirk Hentschel on Tel. +49 2224 98833 23, mobile +49 176 80161827 or dhentschel@hawe-speed.de

In general, industrial door users expect the gates to open and close. For high-speed-doors this process is expected to automatically run as fast as possible. That said, we covered the basics.

But why does this basic wish seem to be so difficult to realize in practice? Is over the top and unnecessary technology being used?

In an effort to make things simpler, are the engineers in fact making it more complicated? – Hard to tell.

HaWe Speed high-speed-doors are different, using simple and easy to understand technology.

The simpler an industrial door is disigned, the less operational failures will occur.

In Practice, HaWe Speed high-speed-door’s control panel reports about current operations in clear text and indicades the current status. Another example are the side guides: the screen is simply unwinding and is not pulled down by cables or similar – nothing can be damaged. Nevertheless even in high winds the screen is fully functional. One last example is the “crash-mechanism”: Upon Starting a movement of the screen, the end pieces of the bottom rail slide inwards the bottom bar, away from the side guides by use of a compression spring; therefore allowing a free range of motion for the vertical movement of the screen’s rail.

Even details about the safety edge show how easy it can be: instead of always crushing it on the ground, HaWe Speed places it slightly off the ground and covers the remaining space with a folded section of screen material. This way an unlevelled ground can be sealed and the contact strip can be kept away from anything on the ground.

They do the job!
